Signs of Mold in Your Home

Mold doesn't always announce itself with an obvious black patch. In South Florida's humidity it often grows quietly — inside AC ducts, behind walls, above ceilings — and the first clues are subtle. Here's what to watch for, and when to get checked.

The smell

A persistent musty, earthy odor is one of the most reliable early signs — especially if it gets stronger when the AC runs, which points to mold in the air handler or ducts. If a room or your airflow smells musty and cleaning doesn't fix it, suspect hidden moisture.
